New flood defence projects “fantastic news for Norfolk”

North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb has welcomed today’s announcement that plans are being developed for over 1,000 new flood defence projects around the country, worth a total of £2.3bn.

Ten schemes announced today are located in North Norfolk. The projects are still in the planning stages, and they would cost over £14m in total, protecting nearly 1200 homes across the District. Each of them will need to receive final approval for the business case before work could start.

North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb said,

“Today’s announcement is really encouraging, and fantastic news for Norfolk. These projects are still in the planning stages, and I will be monitoring them closely to ensure that good progress is made.

“It is particularly encouraging to see a significant proposal for the section of coast from Bacton gas terminal to Ostend included in today’s schemes, reinforcing the commitment I secured recently for urgent work to be done to explore ways to protect residents in Ostend. We need to make sure that work is done over the coming months to develop plans, and I will be holding a further meeting with ministers early next year so that all of the organisations involved can report back on the progress they have made.”
